About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned and experienced Engineering Manager to join our expanding Engineering team.
As the Engineering Manager, you will:
- Manage the engineering resources and team across your assigned areas
- Ensure legal compliance with industry-specific legislation and adherence to customer requirements
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Set a high standard through your conduct—prioritising reliability, hard work, agility, and adaptability
- Ensure safety and quality are embedded in all engineering operations, including the regular monitoring of:
- Engineering Risk Assessments
- SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), with confirmation of completion via team signing
- Maintain an audit-ready workspace at all times
2. Shift, Resource & Personnel Management
- Manage the shift rota with business requirements in mind, ensuring holidays and overtime align with policies
- Collaborate with HR to recruit top-tier Engineers for vacancies
- Design a robust onboarding process to provide new entrants with the best chance to learn and succeed

3. Asset & Maintenance Management
- Ensure engineers are equipped with:
- Tools
- Training
- Parts needed for peak performance
- Maintain up-to-date records in the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System):
- All assets onsite must be documented
- Predictive Maintenance Plans (PPM) must be assigned
- Compliance with scheduled PPM frequencies (e.g., >85% monthly completion)
- Key assets maintained at 100% compliance, e.g., TVI 1600, TV1 1200s, Mondinis, VMags, Sleevers, Grinders, Blenders
- Monitor Engineer RGC (Resource Planning) utilisation at 70–90%:
- Ensure timebooks are accurate and appropriately documented with parts booked
- Perform proactive and reactive maintenance updates (PRAs & escalations communicated to Site Engineering Manager)
4. Contractor & Provider Oversight
- Oversee contractors:
- Complete permit-to-work assignments
- Ensure Proper Risk Assessments (RAM) are established
- Escort contractors to work sites
- Verify monitoring of contractors for compliance with RAM conditions
5. Performance, Development & Budget Control
- Drive team performance:
- Conduct annual PDR (Personal Development Reviews) discussions
- Schedule monthly formal 1-2-1s
- Manage procedural processes:
- Company sickness policies
- Disciplinary meetings & investigations
- Provide regular feedback to help engineers grow
- Maintain an updated skills matrix, develop cost justifications, and assist with apprentice development programmes
- Set clear engineering development pathways
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Compile detailed shift reports and handover documentation, including:
- Tasks completed
- Handover tasks for the next shift
- Critical business performance indicators
- Alert Site Engineering Manager of significant issues with task fulfillment and budget-cost impact

Operate within procedural & financial site guidelines:
- Monitor weekly budgets to ensure over Wirkungering remains minimal and compliant
- Submit overtime requests to Site Engineering Manager
- Work with other Engineering Managers to align spend within site limits
- Accurately track engineering labour costs against budget, including overtime

Deputise for Site Engineering Manager in their absence, including attending DRM meetings
Required Experience & Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Hold either:
- NVQ Level 3 (Electrical or Mechanical) or a higher-equivalent qualification
- Demonstrate prior experience in supervisor or management roles within a food manufacturing or engineering sector
- Prove expertise in capital (`pid cast(3margining change management, continuous improvement, and budgetary controls (labour & parts)
- Proficient in IT use for reporting and data analysis, including drawing KPIs from multiple systems
