Flexible Working

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time. We welcome applications from candidates seeking a minimum of 21.9 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

Do you have skills and expertise to help manufacturers with their digital transformation journey? We are looking for an Engineer to join the team!

In this role you will help SME manufacturing clients solve their most pressing problems using the latest digital tools and Industry 4.0 technologies. You will have the opportunity to work with external technology providers and experts within the University.

Specifically, The Role Involves

  • Working with the team to understand client’s challenges, identify cutting-edge digital technologies as solutions, and present clear recommendations for implementation. You'll be the go-to engineer for translating these solutions into clear, actionable recommendations for implementation and supporting technology transfer.
  • Developing proof-of-concept and demonstrable solutions for clients. This is where your engineering talent comes into play – turning ideas into prototypes that not only demonstrate feasibility but makes a huge impact.
  • Designing and building demonstrations that showcase the latest digital technologies to our clients. It's not just about presenting solutions; it's about engineering that leave clients excited and eager to embrace digital.
  • Leading digital transformation workshops, producing technical roadmaps that pave the way for success, writing impactful grant applications.

About You

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in developing their knowledge in one or more of the following:

  • Automation Systems & Robotics
  • AI and its applications in manufacturing
  • IT and OT System Architectures
  • Manufacturing Systems (ERP, MRP, MES and PLM)

This role presents a unique range of career development opportunities: for people with business skills and experience to expand their technical knowledge and gain experience working with cutting-edge Industry 4.0 digital technologies. Similarly, people with a technical bias will have the opportunity to develop business consulting skills and gather valuable manufacturing business management exposure through supporting and mentoring business owners and company directors.

Such business and technology exposure may appeal to people who have an entrepreneurial flair and are interested in broadening their horizons, working with a wider variety of SME manufacturers working across different sectors from food to engineering, and exploring opportunities with a view to starting their own business at some point in the future.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
