Where Is the Work?
Field-based: Work is conducted on-site at customer locations.
We are seeking:
Tail Lift Engineer – Thermo King UK
Thermo King UK provides comprehensive maintenance services for tail lifts, including:
- Three scheduled services per year (one with a weight test).
- All required LOLER Statutory Thorough Examinations (STE).
- Flexible, tailored maintenance packages based on customer needs.
- Breakdown support, including parts, labour, call-outs, travel, and mileage. Note: Exclusions apply (e.g., damage, operational errors).
Location: Based in the Colchester area and surrounding regions.
What You Will Do
Your role will focus on servicing, repairing, and optimising tail lift systems while ensuring cost efficiency, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth. Key responsibilities include:
- Servicing and repairing tail lifts, double deck, VBG, and shutter door equipment.
- Maximising revenue while minimising stock costs for contract accounts.
- Optimising and maintaining engineer van stock to enhance service delivery.
- Conducting daily safety checks on company vehicles.
- Upholding ISO9001 standards for quality assurance.
- Liaising with the service centre on:
- Job start/end times and downtime/overtime authorization.
- Cost updates and customer purchase orders.
- Completing all required paperwork and online (PDA) recordings for invoicing.
- Ensuring adherence to company policies, health & safety, and ISO9001 compliance.
- Prioritising customer service excellence to maintain the company’s corporate image.
- "Promoting and generating new business with existing/potential customers.
- Offering technical assistance to customers and colleagues as needed.
- Attending company/manufacturer training:
- Thermo King’s dedicated training centre (Tamworth, UK).
- E-learning, certification processes, and self-development courses.

What You Will Bring
Essential Requirements:
- Education to GCSE level (or equivalent), including:
- Maths
- English
- NVQ qualification in hydraulics/electrics (desirable) OR equivalent experience working to manufacturer standards.
- Proven experience as a Tail Lift and Commercial Engineer, ideally:
- Commercial electro-mechanical systems (e.g., engines, compressors, hydraulics).
- Diagnostic & repair skills for hydraulic systems.
- Welding certification.
- STE/Weight Test certification.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating:
- Safety consciousness.
- Professionalism, maintaining customer units and company assets to the highest standard.
- Clean full driving license.
- IT literacy, including:
- Microsoft Office.
- Ability to use a palmtop computer (with training).
