About the Role
Tail Lift Engineer (Field-based) Location: Based in the Colchester area
Integrate into a team dedicated to maintaining and optimizing tail lifts, double deck, VBG, and shutter door equipment. You’ll play a critical role in equipment health, service excellence, and revenue generation.
Responsibilities
Service & Maintenance
- Serve and repair tail lifts, energy-haulers, and other critical equipment, minimizing equipment failures and maximizing efficiency for customers.
- Manage stock for engineer vans to support service excellence and alignment with ISO9002 standards.
- Conduct daily safety checks on company vehicles to ensure adherence to regulations.
Customer & Operational Support
- Liaise with the service center to track job timelines, downtime, overtime, costs, and purchase orders.
- Complete all required documentation (PDA/online tasks) for invoicing and maintaining transparency.
- Uphold company policies, Health & Safety standards, and ISO9002 compliance at all times.

Revenue & Growth
- Prioritize exceptional customer service, reflecting both personally and professionally (van neatness, tool readiness, stock availability).
- Actively promote and generate business with existing/customer prospects.
- Assess, troubleshoot, and address customer and internal technical questions to prevent downtime.
Training & Development
- Complete company training (Tamworth-based or online) and certifications for hydraulic, electrical, welding, and STE/weight-test maintenance.
- Pursue additional manufacturer-authorized courses to evolve your expertise.
Flexible Work Expectations
- Manage additional duties/projects as required for operational continuity.
Requirements
Credentials & Experience
- Education: GCSE (or equivalent) incl. Maths and English.
- Technical Skills:
- NVQ in hydraulics/electrics (desirable) or equivalent expertise to industry standards.
- Tangible tail lift and electro-mechanical engineering experience, including:
- Engines, repair systems (hydraulic/pneumatic).
- Hydraulic diagnosis and repair expertise.
- Valid welding certification and LTBI/Weight Test qualifications.
