Engineering Apprentice
Apprenticeship Development Plan
Your Apprenticeship Development Plan will start at our Manchester Manufacturing site where you will firstly and most importantly become part of our team. You will gain your initial understanding of our business processes - taking part in a rotational plan moving throughout our different departments. Starting with our Sales Team, you will see the lifecycle of our products right through to the completion and shipping of a manufactured component ready to be used.
Your hands-on academic training plan is where learning and development really begins. You will take part in a 4-year training plan where NOV will monitor your progress, supporting and guiding you to become a successful and first-class engineering apprentice.
Academic Year One
You will be in college and on-site, spending time working towards your hands-on NVQ Level 2 Qualification. Your NVQ Level 2 will create the foundations for progression - understanding general fundamental engineering processes and requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
