Job Description: Coordinator (Engineering Biology Team)
The Engineering Biology (EB) team is at the heart of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), driving the UK Government’s strategy for one of the fastest-growing critical and frontier technologies. Through the Industrial Strategy, DSIT delivers economic growth, responsible deployment of technologies, and national security while fostering collaboration with UKRI, industry, academia, and international partners.
Collaborating across government, the team’s mandate includes:
- Sector growth and sustainable development
- Responsible technology deployment
- Economic security
- International partnerships
- Convergence of AI and EB
This team-based role supports the engineering biology (EB) team’s expanding remit by coordinating short- and longer-term assignments. Work will cover stakeholder engagement—internally, across government, and externally—to foster a thriving innovation ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder management:
- Engage and coordinate with Parliament on key inquiries, consensus-building projects, and policy/legislative development.
- Manage relations with crucial sector stakeholders, ministers, C-level executives, and strategic partners.
- Information & support services:
- Ensure that briefer’s offices and policy teams receive up-to-date briefs, enabling responsive and high-quality task management.
- Track internal project timelines to prioritise deliverables for on-time completion.
- Problem-solving & first-point-of-contact:
- Serve as the first contact point for interdepartmental questions and requests across government.

Essential & Desirable Qualifications
Essential Requirements
✔ Has demonstrable experience managing complex, multi-faceted work portfolios (balancing competing priorities). ✔ Can effectively manage high-demand periods and respond under tight deadlines. ✔ Exceptional ability to engage highly influential stakeholders, including Ministers and senior leaders. ✔ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working in or having substantive familiarity with science, technology, or innovation policy areas.
- Knowledge of frontier technologies, including emerging research innovations.

Competitive Package
💵 Base Pay: £36,735 per annum 🔄 Civil Service Pension: DSIT contributes an additional £10,642/year to the Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
