Engineering Compliance Manager

Compliance Manager – Network Operability

About the Role

Network Operability is accountable for developing the electricity system operability strategy and analysis capability, providing technical advice to real-time operation and network planning, developing long-term operability products and solutions, and enabling the connection of new solutions to the network while ensuring compliance.

As the Manager in Network Operability, you will lead a team of 8 to 12 power system engineers to deliver licence obligations and NESO1 activities driven by zero-carbon operation, network development needs, and industry landscape change. This role:

  • Leads engineering compliance activities across existing and new connections
  • Supports industry compliance with the Grid Code
  • Contributes to the development of models, code changes, and technical solutions for a changing electricity system
  • Drives practical solutions with accountability for setting direction and delivery speed

You can be based at Wokingham or Warwick, with an option for hybrid working from home or office.

This role is open to full-time, part-time, and flexible working applicants.


Key Accountabilities

As the Compliance Manager, your responsibilities include:

  • Compliance & Documentation:

    • Manage all existing and new connections through the Grid Code compliance process
    • Advise and guide industry participants on compliance requirements
    • Lead Grid Code modifications to keep the process efficient
  • Technical Solutions:

    • Develop dynamic models for engineering compliance in commercial services
    • Balance competing objectives: operability, speed, fairness, consumer outcomes, and government priorities
  • Risk & NESO Strategy:

    • Rapidly diagnose and resolve complex problems, aligning technical, commercial, and policy perspectives
    • Translate energy policy into operational mechanisms for industry credibility and system deliverability
    • Mitigate risks to deliver benefit to NESO and its stakeholders
    • Provide clear, well-evidenced advice to senior leadership

About You

We are seeking a strong technical and leadership-driven individual with the following qualities:

  • Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams with strong engagement and collaborative relationships
  • Expertise in change management and complex risk mitigation to support organisational goals
  • Proven leadership in skills development and career progression for individuals and teams
  • Experience navigating uncertain environments to deliver solutions
  • Deep understanding of key industry frameworks and technical challenges

What You’ll Get

  • Competitive salary: Up to £80,000 annually (dependent on experience and capability)
