Engineering Contracts Assistant Manager
Assistant Engineering Manager (Contracts & Remotes) – Fixed Term until December 31, 2026
Our Facilities and Engineering team is seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager (Contracts & Remotes). This is an exciting opportunity to support the management of contracts across our iconic Knightsbridge store and remote sites while ensuring the safety, compliance, and exceptional maintenance of our buildings.
Our team’s work maintains the fundamental integrity of Harrods – we’re responsible for everything beneath the shopper experience that keeps customers returning. This includes working closely with colleagues and service partners to ensure smooth operations and a seamless experience for every visitor.
Role Overview
- Basis: Fixed-term until December 31, 2026
- Hours: Predominantly 5 days (predominantly Monday-Friday) with 1 in 6 weekend commitments due to management rota
- Main HQ: Based in Knightsbridge with travel for projects/contracts across other Harrods locations as required
- Responsibilities: Oversight of service partners, compliance, and repairs while driving a culture of high performance across engineering and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Operations Management
- Support project planning and execution from inception to completion, ensuring:
- Adherence to asset management processes and due diligence.
- Timely and efficient delivery of routine and emergency repair work.
- Assist in daily operations maintenance including:
- Compliance reviews, inspections, and audits across engineering, building fabric, and cleaning services.
- Swift and effective issue resolution across all facets of facilities management.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the point of contact for:
- Colleagues on internal engineering and maintenance matters.
- Third-party contractors for coordination.
- Building occupants on facilities-related issues.
- Aim to foster customer satisfaction by addressing problems promptly.
Leadership & Compliance
- Budgeting & financial oversight: Raise purchase orders, approve invoices, and track financial aspects of responsibilities.
- Ensure health, safety, and legal compliance across all sites.
- Contribute to minor asset improvements via support in logistics, planning, execution, and sign-offs.
About You
We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional capable of balancing technical expertise with exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills.
Experience & Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years in building services, with:
- A minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role (being able to lead teams and influence operations).
- Proactive problem-solving experience with a good track record of delivering results.
- Strong technical knowledge, ideally in:
- Lifts, escalators, catering equipment, or building fabric works (advantageous).
- Familiarity with facilities management roles.

- Exceptional communication skills for liaising with both internal colleagues and external contractors.
- Confidence under pressure, with sound judgement in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Strong ability to work independently while remaining responsive to shifting priorities.
