Engineering Director – Nationally Significant Interconnector Project

Mint Selection is partnered with one of the UK’s interconnectors, operating a 1 GW link between the UK and France. Our client is seeking an Engineering Director to lead a multidisciplinary technical team, drive cross-functional performance, manage interfaces with stakeholders, and ensure the safe and successful operation of a nationally significant business.


Role Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Engineering Director will be responsible for:

  • Technical governance
  • Asset management capabilities
  • Development of HVDC cable systems and converter station infrastructure

As a member of the senior leadership team (SLT), this appointment is pivotal for:

  • Strategic decision-making
  • Cross-functional leadership
  • Aligning technical activities with business and regulatory objectives

Requirements & Competencies

Experience & Knowledge

  • 15+ years’ experience in the energy or transmission sector, with deep expertise in:
    • HVDC systems
    • Converters
    • Grid codes
    • Transmission interface requirements
  • Proven record of leading engineering or technical teams on major infrastructure projects or operational asset management
  • Commercial acumen in:
    • Engineering contracts
    • OEM agreements
    • Technical dispute resolution

Qualifications & Licences

  • Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred
  • Desired: Strong knowledge of UK and European regulatory frameworks for interconnectors and transmission systems
