Engineering Director – Nationally Significant Interconnector Project
Mint Selection is partnered with one of the UK’s interconnectors, operating a 1 GW link between the UK and France. Our client is seeking an Engineering Director to lead a multidisciplinary technical team, drive cross-functional performance, manage interfaces with stakeholders, and ensure the safe and successful operation of a nationally significant business.
Role Summary
Reporting to the CEO, the Engineering Director will be responsible for:
- Technical governance
- Asset management capabilities
- Development of HVDC cable systems and converter station infrastructure
As a member of the senior leadership team (SLT), this appointment is pivotal for:
- Strategic decision-making
- Cross-functional leadership
- Aligning technical activities with business and regulatory objectives

Requirements & Competencies
Experience & Knowledge
- 15+ years’ experience in the energy or transmission sector, with deep expertise in:
- HVDC systems
- Converters
- Grid codes
- Transmission interface requirements
- Proven record of leading engineering or technical teams on major infrastructure projects or operational asset management
- Commercial acumen in:
- Engineering contracts
- OEM agreements
- Technical dispute resolution

Qualifications & Licences
- Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred
- Desired: Strong knowledge of UK and European regulatory frameworks for interconnectors and transmission systems
