Engineering Director – Medical Technology
Cambridge - Hybrid Working
£120,000–£140,000
We are partnering with an innovative medical technology company based in Cambridge developing advanced healthcare systems for next-generation products. Following continued growth, significant investment, and an expanding product roadmap, the business is now looking to appoint an Engineering Director to lead its multidisciplinary engineering function and drive the delivery of complex, market-leading technologies.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys shaping technical strategy while building and developing high-performing teams. Reporting directly to the Founder, you will oversee multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, whilst fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
The role is based in Cambridge and requires office working of 3-4 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams across Embedded Software, Electronics, Mechanical, Systems and Test Engineering.
- Define and implement the engineering strategy aligned with business objectives and product roadmap.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple concurrent development programmes from concept through to manufacture.
- Drive engineering excellence, ensuring robust development processes, quality standards and best practices are adopted across the organisation.
- Work closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Regulatory and Commercial teams to ensure successful product delivery.
- Manage engineering budgets, resource planning and recruitment to support continued business growth.
- Mentor and develop engineering managers and technical leaders, creating clear succession and career development plans.
- Support customer engagements and represent the engineering function with key stakeholders where required.

Experience Required
- Degree-qualified in Engineering, Electronics, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams within a technology or product development environment ideally using C++ or Python.
- Proven track record delivering complex electronic, embedded software or electromechanical products from concept to production.
- Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle management, project delivery and product development methodologies.
- Experience managing engineering managers and leading large technical teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence at executive level.
- Commercial awareness with experience balancing technical excellence, cost, quality and delivery objectives.

Bonus Skills
- Previous experience within Medical Devices, Healthcare Technology or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience working within ISO 13485, IEC 60601 or other regulated product development environments.
- Knowledge of systems engineering and software development processes.
- Experience supporting business growth, organisational transformation or scaling engineering functions.
