Head of Data Engineering
Here at Precision AQ, we are building a Data Hub, a centralized platform team responsible for:
- Consolidating legacy data infrastructure
- Establishing an enterprise data foundation and governance
- Enabling AI/ML capabilities across the organization
Mission: Transform fragmented data pipelines into a scalable, governed platform for multiple business units—from strategy to execution.
About the Role
We are now hiring an Engineering Leader to build and run this team.
Job Summary
- Stand up and scale a high-performing data-engineering team
- Own day-to-day engineering operations:
- Sprint delivery
- Technical quality
- Capacity planning
- Drive technical excellence:
- Architecture decisions
- Code quality
- DevOps/GitOps practices
- Production reliability
- Be the primary escalation point for:
- Technical blockers
- Cross-team dependencies
- Delivery risks
- Partner with Leadership on:
- Hiring
- Team development
- Vendor relationships
- Strategic planning
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a team of:
- Data engineers
- Analytics engineers
- Platform engineers
- Set expectations and manage performance
- Run 1:1s
- Create a culture where engineers thrive
- Accountability: Output, quality, and team morale
Sprint & Capacity Management
- Own engineering delivery cadence (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives)
- Manage capacity across:
- Platform build
- Migrations
- Feature development
- Ensure realistic commitments are met

Technical Design & Architecture
- Lead technical design reviews & architectural decisions
- Ensure solutions are:
- Scalable
- Maintainable
- Aligned with our medallion data architecture
- Key rule: No designs go to production until vetted soundly
Engineering Quality & Standards
- Establish/enforce practices like:
- Code review
- Branching strategy
- CI/CD
- Testing
- Clear documentation
- Incident management
Collaboration & Operations
- Partner with SVP on:
- Hiring & onboarding
- Vendor relationships
- Cross-functional coordination with:
- Insights Hub
- Evidence Solutions
- Product Solutions
- IT Security
- Escalate blockers early and clearly
- Manage dependencies with:
- Corporate IT
- External vendors
- Produce operations: Ensure systems meet SLAs. Build:
- Monitoring
- Alerting
- Incident response processes
Education & Experience
(Essential Qualifications)
- 5+ years in:
- Data engineering
- Analytics engineering
- Platform engineering
- 3+ years leading engineering teams (covering):
- Hiring
- Performance management
- Delivery accountability
- Direct experience with modern data stack:
- Cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred)
- Transformation frameworks
- Orchestration tools
- Proven track record delivering initiatives such as:
- Migrations
- Consolidations
- Greenfield builds
- Experience operating in:
- Regulated environments
- Compliance-sensitive environments
- Demonstrable skills in:
- Code review
- Problem-solving (debugging production issues)
- Sound architectural judgment
