Finlay Jude Associates are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering business in the Whitworth area. Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Estimator for their Sales team, to provide sales support and detailed estimates for both standard and bespoke equipment & systems, including estimates for installation and service support work.
This will initially be a temporary position with a view to becoming permanent after 12 weeks following a successful probation period.
Package And Benefits In The Role Of Engineering Estimator
- Salary £35,000 (with potential to rise depending on progress)
- 37 hours p/w Monday – Friday (8.30am – 5pm Mon – Thurs and 8.30am – 2pm on Friday)
- Paid overtime

Engineering Estimator Role And Duties
- Review customer enquiries, technical specifications and engineering drawings with internal teams to understand the clients’ requirements.
- Compile detailed estimates and costings and prepare equipment and system quotations using standard templates and Excel spreadsheets.
- Working with 3rd party suppliers, subcontractors and Group companies.
- Use of internal systems to log quotations raised along with client contact details.
- Follow up sales leads not designated to a specific salesperson.
- Assist with developing a more efficient and streamlined standard estimating and quotation system utilising our standard templates in both Excel and Word format.
- Work in accordance with the current company tender review and sales procedures.
- Answer sales enquiries from incoming calls or emails, respond and follow up or liaise with colleagues as necessary.
- Assist where possible, client technical queries and questions regarding equipment, lead times etc..
- Raise internal sales orders from client PO’s, relating them to quotations sent.
- Liaise with other departments such as purchasing, accounts, projects and electrical, and provide detail of sales orders and estimates as required for resource allocation.
- Identify potential technical challenges and cost implications.
- Support project handover once contracts are secured.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure effective communication and information sharing.
- Produce reports, spreadsheets and documents using Microsoft Office applications.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by management.

Required Skills And Experience For The Engineering Estimator Role
- Previous estimating, administrative and operational experience, preferably within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Producing accurate material take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Understanding of labour, materials and subcontract pricing.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Self-motivated and proactive attitude towards work.
- Attending sites and pre-tender meetings where appropriate.
- Strong written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and other common business systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
- Strong customer facing communications skills both written & verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Professional, reliable, customer-focused and flexible approach to work.
- Willing to support different departments within the business.
- Able to maintain confidentiality where appropriate.
- Assisting other members of the team as required.

Desirable
- Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, and food industry related projects.
- Understanding of technical documentation & processes.
- Knowledge of process equipment, vessels, mixers, pumping & pipework systems.
- Knowledge of RAMS, site requirements and H&S documentation requirements.
- Understanding of mechanical & electrical interfaces.
