Site-Based Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer / Geoscientist
Salary: £30,000–£38,000 per annum (dependent on experience) (Paid hourly) + Discretionary annual bonus
Hours: 45 hours per week
Location: South Wales and/or Somerset

Jackson Geo Services is a growing ground investigation and geotechnical consultancy seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Engineering Geologist, Geotechnical Engineer, or Geoscientist to join our expanding team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional looking to develop their skills and progress within the ground engineering industry. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will gain hands-on experience across a wide range of ground investigation and geotechnical projects throughout the UK.

The Role
The successful candidate will support and supervise a variety of ground investigation activities and contribute to the delivery of high-quality factual and interpretative reports.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supervising ground investigation site activities, including drilling operations, trial pitting, and pavement inspections
- Logging soils and rock in accordance with relevant British Standards
- Undertaking a range of in-situ testing techniques
- Processing and managing digital site data
- Carrying out gas and groundwater monitoring programmes
- Obtaining gas and groundwater samples using a variety of monitoring and sampling techniques
- Surveying exploratory holes and other project-specific locations
- Assisting in the preparation of factual and interpretative ground investigation reports
- Ensuring works are completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and industry best practices
- Liaising professionally with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
- Travelling to sites across the UK, including occasional overnight stays

Essential Requirements
- Degree qualification in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Science, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Good IT skills and confidence using digital data collection systems
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable, responsible, and capable of working independently when required
- Commitment to safe working practices and the ability to undertake basic risk assessments
- Ability to meet industry training requirements, including obtaining a CSCS card
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working within the ground investigation, geotechnical, geological, or civil engineering sectors
- Construction-related qualifications such as CSCS, SSSTS, SMSTS, or NRSWA
- Membership of a recognised professional body
- Experience of site supervision and ground investigation reporting
- A genuine enthusiasm for developing a career within the ground engineering industry
