Hygiene & Engineering Manager – Nights

Location: Kent

Salary: £58,000-62,000 (Depending on experience)

We are looking for an experienced Hygiene & Engineering Manager to lead the night shift engineering and hygiene functions within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving food safety, engineering performance, compliance, and continuous improvement while ensuring operational excellence and audit readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Hygiene and Engineering teams during night operations, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and performance.
  • Oversee planned engineering activities, equipment reliability, and rapid resolution of technical issues to minimise downtime.
  • Deliver the site hygiene programme, ensuring compliance with BRCGS, customer, and food safety standards.
  • Manage hygiene validation, including ATP testing, swabbing, allergen controls, and cleaning verification.
  • Lead health and safety initiatives, risk assessments, incident investigations, and permit-to-work compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement through KPI analysis, root cause investigations, and cost control across labour, chemicals, and utilities.
  • Act as the senior site manager during night shifts, supporting operational decision-making and emergency response.

  • Proven leadership experience in Engineering, Hygiene, or Operations within an FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of BRCGS, HACCP, food safety legislation, hygiene management, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience leading large teams and delivering measurable improvements through KPIs and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Minimum HNC in Engineering.
  • HACCP Level 3, Food Safety Level 3, and IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) are desirable.
