Employment Details
- Location: Leeds, Edinburgh, Bristol
- Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
- Working Pattern: Hybrid (at least two days/week or 40% time in office).

About the Role
You will lead the engineering capability for Key Management services within the Chief Security Office’s Cryptography Lab, ensuring accountability for end-to-end operational health, reliability, and ongoing improvement. As the Engineering Lead, your role involves:
- Providing leadership and direction to a team of engineers.
- Aligning services with security policy, regulatory expectations, and audit requirements.
- Driving improvements in engineering effectiveness, service resilience, and delivery predictability while maintaining control over cryptographic operations.
- Strengthening the platform’s technical and operational maturity through coaching and collaboration.
- Ensuring the maintenance of a high-trust, high-risk environment through continuous learning and improvement.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the evolution of enterprise key management services, embedding crypto-agility principles and modern DevOps engineering practices for scalable, secure, and adaptable cryptographic controls.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Risk, Compliance, and Audit stakeholders to harmonise priorities and trade-offs.
- Ensure services meet security, regulatory, and audit requirements with embedded controls.
- Oversee cryptographic ceremonies (e.g., HSM lifecycle management) and operational best practices.
- Lead engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, and developing technical efficiency.
- Drive engineering maturity, reliability, and operational excellence across full service lifecycles.

Complementary Experience
- Experience in scalable, resilient, highly available platforms (across full lifecycle).
- Background in Financial Services, Financial Markets, or similarly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of HSM lifecycle, cryptographic ceremonies, or operational key management practices.
- Background in enhancing reliability and platform scalability in critical ecosystems.
Requirements
Mandatory
- Senior engineering leadership experience with accountability for delivery and operational outcomes.
- Strong understanding of Key Management processes, cryptographic controls, and KM operating models.
- Proven ability to lead evolutionary improvements in cryptographic engineering teams.
- Solid grounding in modern engineering practices applicable to high-risk, regulated environments.
- Experience interfacing with Product Owners, compliance teams, and business stakeholders for trade-off decisions.
- Track record of ensuring services compliance with security, regulatory, and audit controls.
