About the Role
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the technical foundation for Wise employees to achieve our mission. As the Engineering Lead (EL1) for our People Technology Growth team, you will move beyond managing isolated SaaS tools to ownership of the end-to-end digital employee experience, spanning attraction to offboarding.
This Growth team operates with a product mindset to improve internal customer satisfaction and tool adoption. You will lead a globally distributed team of engineers across hubs like London, Singapore, and Austin, ensuring high-performing execution, technical reliability, and an exceptional experience for all Wisers.

What Will You Be Working On?
📌 Technical & Product Ownership

Drive the technical roadmap: Address solutions for technical debt, reliability, security, and scalability.

Empower the Journey Layer: Shift focus from SaaS maintenance to engineered employee journeys.

Maintain product quality: Hold high standards for delivering an exceptional employee experience.

Daily execution: Support delivery, manage incidents, and establish essential SLA documentation.

Standardise rituals using "Think, Build, Fix" framework:
- Jira Product Discovery (ideation)
- Jira Software (planned builds)
- Bi-weekly agile sprint cadences.
🎯 Leadership & People Management
- Manage & coach a globally distributed team (IC1–IC3 levels):
- Performance management & structured feedback.
- Growth & well-being priorities.
- Foster culture: Build an egoless environment focused on ownership and inclusivity.
- Recruit & onboard: Lead hiring panels and onboarding processes.
- Balance resources: Size the team to hit delivery goals and strategic plans.

What Do You Need?
⚙️ Required
- Experience leading engineering teams and building high-performing cultures.
- People/HR tech expertise or familiarity with recruitment/onboarding systems.
- Strong engineering foundation with architectural/integration decision-making (eg. APIs, workflows).
- Proactive collaboration skills: Ability to challenge opinions, align with product goals, and drive structured execution.
- Prove agile methods and turning traditional IT processes into automated, self-service solutions.
🌟 Nice to Have
- Experience in cross-functional, globally distributed teams under tight deadlines.
- Understanding of agile methodologies and scaling innovation strategies.

💰 Compensation
£105,000–£135,000 per year + restricted share units.
