📍 Location: South Ockendon, RM15 (Onsite) 🕒 Type: Full time, Permanent (Monday to Friday)

About the Role
We are seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the engineering function at our South Ockendon Service Centre. This is a key leadership role focused on ensuring plant equipment and services are maintained in line with operational and compliance standards.
You will embed and mature the site’s Engineering TPM Maintenance Strategy, fostering a proactive, reliability-focused culture. Operating in a highly automated environment, you will support PLC-driven systems, champion continuous improvement initiatives, and utilise data and CMMS insights to enhance asset performance and uptime.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop a team of eight Maintenance Technicians, ensuring capability, engagement, and accountability
- Drive team alignment with proactive maintenance philosophy, shifting from a reactive to a predictive/reliability-centric approach
Maintenance Strategy & Operations
- Embed and continuously improve the Engineering TPM Maintenance Strategy
- Manage breakdowns and planned maintenance activities, optimising deployment of internal and external resources
- Develop and deliver a strong Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) strategy, ensuring compliance and reducing maintenance gaps

Technical & Operational Excellence
- Enhance equipment reliability through optimisation, standard operating procedures, and performance monitoring
- Oversee engineering data systems, ensuring CMMS compliance, and maintaining data integrity
- Support engineering and capex projects (specification, installation, and commissioning of new automated equipment)
Compliance & Risk Management
- Manage maintenance budgets and control maintenance material spend
- Oversee contractors on-site, adhering to legal, safety, and company policies
- Conduct risk assessments, ensuring adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and business improvement opportunities
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience leading maintenance or engineering teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong technical background in either mechanical or electrical engineering
- Experience in automated plant environments, preferably with PLC systems
- Track record of embedding TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) or reliability-based maintenance strategies
- Familiarity with CMMS systems, with experience in implementation/optimisation
- In-depth understanding of Health & Safety legislation and best practices
- Experience in budget management and P&L accountability for engineering functions

Qualifications
Essential
- Completed Level 3 engineering apprenticeship (mechanical and/or electrical)
- HNC/HND or NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) engineering qualification (preferred)
Desirable
- NEBOSH qualification
- 18th Edition (Wiring Regulations) certification
- PLC troubleshooting and programming experience
