Job Description:
Your new role
Location - Craigentinny, Edinburgh
Duration - 4 years FTC
Salary: £28,000
Application Closing date: 10th July 2026
Planned Assessment centre: w/c 20th July 2026
Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a unique and exciting opportunity for an Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprentice. As a Train maintenance Apprentice, you will develop your skills to be able to perform a variety of maintenance tasks whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency.
Key role and responsibilities:
- Support maintenance specialists and team members in task specific jobs.
- Be expected to use the appropriate tools safely and complete jobs to the required quality standard
- Be able to operate on your own initiative as well as be an effective team player
- Follow standard operating procedures to help maintain the next generation of rolling stock
- Carry out additional tasks in support of your teams objectives

Key Accountabilities:
- Participate in the formal apprenticeship scheme to obtain a Level 3 qualification
- Attend college and complete course work on time and to a high standard
- Attend and fully participate in regular training, career and development reviews with line management, college staff, and other interested parties
- To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi's ethos, culture and values
- To adhere to the Hitachi Rail Europe's Equal Opportunities policy
- To comply with and implement Hitachi Rail Europe's Health and Safety policy
- To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within capabilities as may be required
About You
It is our expectation that successful applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the experience and skills listed below:
Essential Requirements
- Enthusiasm for working in an maintenance environment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Able to work in a professional and confidential manner
- The ability to work as part of a team, attend team meetings and eventually contribute to appropriate discussions
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Excellent time management
- Highly motivated and self-driven individual with a desire to progress a career within a manufacturing environment
- An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment
- Self motivated with a flexible approach.

Qualifications
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
