As a Tech Function Engineering Manager, you’ll pivotal role is to shape a world-class engineering function rooted in technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement. You’ll balance long-term planning with execution, empowering engineers to solve meaningful challenges while ensuring systems scale effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier engineering talent.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive technical excellence and establish standards for best practices.
  • Own the technical health, reliability, and scalability of critical customer-facing systems in alignment with SLAs.
  • Partner with Staff and Principal Engineers on architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to balance delivery pace, customer value, and technical debt reduction.
  • Champion Agile methodologies and implement data-driven engineering improvements.
  • Drive adoption of AI-augmented engineering practices, such as Spec-Driven Development, and enhance developer tooling.
  • Ensure engineering practices align with governance, security, and risk compliance expectations.

Requirements

We’re seeking a strategic leader with:

  • Proven experience leading high-performing software engineering teams in a modern tech organisation.
  • Core competence in software engineering, with experience in scaling, maintainability, and architectural frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication skills to guide technical direction, mentor teams, and interface between engineering and business stakeholders.
  • A passion for developer experience (DX) enhancements and improving workflows through automated tooling and AI integration.
  • Comfort with Agile methodologies and a focus on iterative improvements.
  • Strong familiarity with DevOps principles and cloud-native technologies to support engineers in working at scale.
  • Gumption to embed governance, risk mitigation, and compliance standards.
