Engineering Manager

Lead the engineering teams building the next generation of AI-powered customer experiences.

We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong background in modern software engineering and Agentic AI to join our growing technology organisation.

This is an opportunity to lead high-performing engineering teams working on intelligent, autonomous systems that transform how customers interact with digital services. You'll be responsible for developing people, driving technical excellence and enabling the delivery of innovative AI-powered products.

You'll bring a blend of engineering leadership, technical credibility and experience delivering solutions that leverage autonomous AI agents, large language models and modern AI frameworks.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of software engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive engineering culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Product, Data, AI and Architecture teams to define and deliver intelligent customer solutions.
  • Guide technical decision-making while empowering engineers to own delivery.
  • Drive engineering best practices across software development, AI integration and platform reliability.
  • Support the adoption and evolution of Agentic AI capabilities across products and services.
  • Balance short-term delivery with long-term technical strategy and engineering excellence.

You'll bring:

  • Experience managing and developing software engineering teams.
  • A strong background in backend software engineering and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on experience working with Agentic AI solutions, autonomous AI agents or multi-agent systems in a production environment.
  • Experience integrating large language models (LLMs) into customer-facing or business-critical applications.
  • A solid understanding of AI orchestration, prompt engineering, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and AI governance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A passion for mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.

Nice to have:

  • Utilities or other regulated industries.
  • Partner proposition or partner-facing platforms.
  • Customer lifecycle, onboarding or retention products.
  • Golang (Go). Experience with other backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, C#, Python or Node.js is equally welcome.
  • Cloud-native development on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Experience establishing AI engineering standards, governance or best practices.

  • Fully remote
  • Up to £135k base (dependent on experience) + bonus
