Location: London, UK (Remote-First) Salary: Up to £180,000 + 15% Bonus + Equity

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 6–7 software engineers building highly scalable, cloud-native platforms that power AI products at global scale.

This is a technical leadership role with a 70% hands-off / 30% hands-on split. Responsibilities include:

  • Coaching and developing your team.
  • Driving delivery across large-scale distributed systems.
  • Collaborating with Product and Engineering leaders to shape technical strategy.
  • Remaining technically involved via architecture, system design, and critical engineering decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6–7 software engineers.
  • Drive delivery across large-scale distributed systems.
  • Shape technical strategy and architecture alongside senior engineering leaders.
  • Contribute to architecture reviews, system design, and key technical decisions.
  • Champion engineering best practices, code quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Product, Platform, and Infrastructure teams to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Play a leading role in hiring as the engineering organisation expands by over 200 roles.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture and support career development across the team.

About You

Ideal candidates are experienced Engineering Managers with a strong software engineering background and a passion for leading high-performing teams. You should bring:

  • Experience leading software engineering teams in fast-paced technology environments.
  • Strong backend engineering experience with Java, Python, or Go; Go is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • A proven track record in designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Expertise with AWS and cloud-native architectures.
  • Knowledge of microservices, scalability, resilience, and high-availability systems.
  • Ability to balance people leadership with technical oversight and architectural decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and coaching skills.
