Where will you be working?

At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.

We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.

This role will be within our Substation & Renewable Connections team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?

M Group Energy is recruiting for an Engineering Manager to work across the M Group Energy business on multiple design and build projects within our substations area.

An Engineering Manager oversees and manages design projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role requires strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills, as well as a solid understanding of the design process.

This is a Hybrid role where you will be required to travel to our offices in Newport, Birmingham & Nottingham. You must be available to travel on work related business with occasional overnight stays.

  • Developing and implementing project plans, defining timelines, allocating resources, and monitoring progress.
  • Collaborating with clients, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, manage expectations, and ensure satisfaction.
  • Guiding and motivating design teams, providing feedback, and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks and issues that may impact the project.
  • Managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring resources are used effectively.
  • Ensuring the final design deliverables meet the required standards and quality.
  • Maintaining clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status.
  • Maintaining comprehensive project documentation for reference and reporting.
  • Addressing and resolving design issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Continuously reviewing and improving the design process to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Project Management, Business).
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably within a design related field.
  • Application of the principles of CDM 2015 and the role of Principal Designer.
  • Strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and design tools.
  • Knowledge of design principles and processes.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of creative professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources.
  • Strong understanding of risk management.
  • Available to travel on work related business with occasional overnight stays.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence
