Chief Engineer – Rainford Operation (Alkegen)

Job Title
[Senior] Chief Engineer – Rainford Plant Operations
(Exact title as per internal structure, but with primary responsibility for leading the Engineering function at the Rainford site.)
Role Purpose
You will be responsible for leading the Engineering function, ensuring world-class engineering standards, maintenance processes, and procedures are maintained across the operation. Your focus will be on driving continuous improvement, implementing world-class maintenance practices, and supporting the financial, business, and leadership development goals of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Compliance
- Lead the Engineering function, working in conjunction with the Plant Manager and Site HSE Manager, to ensure all engineering work is safe, controlled, lawful, and compliant with all relevant legislation.
- Fully align with Alkegen’s HSE and Quality Policies to maintain compliance.
- Develop and implement a proactive maintenance strategy to meet business needs, leveraging KPIs, data analysis, and manufacturer recommendations.
- Ensure the operational delivery of the engineering budget and accurate reporting against business KPIs.

Engineering Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement through leadership, ensuring Process Engineering strategies align with business safety, efficiency, and development goals.
- Resolve engineering and technical challenges, providing solutions at all levels.
- Oversee the development of technical documents, specifications, contracts, and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in all engineering activities.
- Manage planned shutdowns, maintenance periods, and facility upgrades, including contract management, contractor coordination, subcontractor oversight, and procurement of spare parts.
Project & Risk Management
- Ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of engineering and facility maintenance, mitigating risks and addressing remedial project needs.
- Develop technical benchmarks, standards, and research projects to maintain and improve world-class technical excellence.
- Leverage accreditation (e.g., industry standards) and ensure compliance with legislative requirements, including:
- LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
- Legionella
- Pressure Vessels Safety Regulations
- Fixed Installation Testing
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
- F-gas and Gas Safety Regulations (for applicable equipment)
Team & Operational Oversight
- Uphold maintenance and production standards, monitoring team adherence.
- Enhance technical capability of the team through skill development, training, and professional growth.
- Evaluate new technologies for their efficacy and cost/benefit in supporting business interests.
- Assume financial responsibility for revenue and capital projects where required.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent in an engineering or technical discipline.
Technical & Methodological Expertise
- Formal training in world-class maintenance frameworks (e.g., Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Lean Manufacturing (WCM/LM), Six Sigma, Toyota Production System (TPS) or Lean)**—with relevantSuccessful implementation and management experience.
- Proven ability to write reports, business correspondence, and technical procedure manuals.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (capability to clarify technical information to non-specialists, including production and maintenance teams).
