Engineering Manager, Account Security

UK-Based Engineering Manager – Account Protection

Company Description

Depop is a peer-to-peer circular fashion marketplace, enabling users to buy, sell, and discover secondhand clothing. Our mission is clear: make fashion circular by making secondhand shopping as exciting and rewarding as buying new.

Founded in 2011, Depop has grown into a global platform with 56+ million registered users, redefining how people engage with fashion while promoting sustainability. Powered by over 500 employees, we treat sustainability, diversity, and community impact as core to our growth. Since 2021, Depop is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy, operating as an independent brand and expanding our mission to more markets.

We prioritise an inclusive workplace, celebrating differences across backgrounds and fostering a culture where every voice drives growth. As an equal opportunities employer, we ensure fairness in recruitment and adapt to individual needs.

About the Role

Depop seeks a UK-based Engineering Manager to lead our Account Protection squad, tasked with ensuring secure, trusted, and user-friendly account interactions. You’ll grow this critical function by selecting, educating, and motivating a team of engineers, defining its trajectory, and embedding best practices for fraud prevention, abusive behaviour protection, and lasting platform reliability.

Reporting into ** senior engineering leadership**, this is an opportunity for growth, ownership, and shaping an influential company-wide priority.

Our Expectations

  • Lead a 5-7 engineer squad, helping them develop expertise, best practices, and career tracks.
  • Focus on account security elements like **login systems (MFA, OAuth, WebAuthn/passkeys), fraud prevention (credential stuffing detection, suspicious login analysis), and automated abuse suppression (scraping, bots)*.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
