Engineering Manager, Account Security
UK-based Engineering Manager (Account Protection squad)
Company Description
Depop is a peer-to-peer circular fashion marketplace where anyone can buy, sell, and discover secondhand fashion. Our mission is to make fashion circular by ensuring that buying secondhand is as exciting and rewarding as purchasing new items.
Founded in 2011, Depop’s diverse community has transformed the resale market, making it mainstream rather than an alternative. With over 56 million registered users, our platform helps people find great value, express themselves, and extend the life of clothes. We believe that everything you might want already exists, and our role is to help people discover it.
Headquartered in London with offices in New York, Depop operates as a standalone subsidiary of Etsy (since 2021), though we continue as an independent business. For more details, visit www.depop.com.
Depop fosters an inclusive workplace where diversity drives innovation. We’re an equal opportunity employer and make accommodations available during the hiring process.
About the Role
Depop is seeking a UK-based Engineering Manager to lead our Account Protection squad. This mission is clear: make strong account protection the default for every user, ensuring buyers and sellers can trust and use Depop with confidence.
You’ll grow and shape this field, developing engineers, hiring talent, and defining systems and practices to combat threats like account takeovers, automated abuse, and scraping—while keeping Depop simple, trusted, and user-friendly.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and support a squad of 5 to 7 engineers.
- Establish Account Protection as a clear, effective capability at Depop.
- Own the team’s delivery, health, and product outcomes, creating clarity on priorities, risks, risks visions, and trade-offs.
- Stay connected with technical direction and architectural decisions, without needing to manage every technical detail.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, Security, Marketplace, Trust & Support, and operational teams.
- Early visibility of risks, dependencies, and decisions to ensure alignment.
- Build an inclusive team culture, encouraging challenge, leadership, and growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
