About the Role

We’re seeking a Technical Engineering Manager to lead a team designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems for self-managed customers. You’ll own the Geo product end-to-end—tenant-to-tenant replication that serves as the backbone for disaster recovery strategies.

This is your chance to shape a critical infrastructure layer, driving reliability, performance, and innovation across GitLab’s Self-Managed deployments.

What You’ll Bring

  • Architecture & Leadership: A proven track record of building, owning, and executing large-scale distributed services with deep technical insight to guide strategy and tactical execution.
  • Operational Excellence: Experience ensuring high-availability systems (99.99%+ SLOs), including owning critical incident resolution and incident management rotations.
  • AI-First Mindset: Hands-on experience leveraging AI tools to enhance team productivity, with tangible lessons from both successful implementations and missteps.
  • Team Culture & Impact: A history of building accountable, high-performing teams, including the courage to manage underperformance when needed.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Comfort with driving complex projects autonomously without designated program managers.
  • Remote Leadership: Strong ability to lead distributed teams effectively across time zones (India-anchored, with EMEA hiring for timezone alignment).

Key Responsibilities

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
