Engineering Manager
Contract & Location
- Contract: 18 months (Inside IR35)
- Location: Reading (100% onsite attendance required)
Overview
To lead and manage a technical team, providing effective leadership as the main contact point for all team members and/or other team leaders. To maintain a technical capability that delivers critical skills and resources aligned to current and future business requirements to deliver the integrated technical programme.
Key Accountabilities

Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team to deliver objectives safely and securely.
- Mentor and support career development of staff.
- Assess staff performance against agreed objectives and implement corrective action where necessary.

Technical Expertise:
- Provide knowledge and technical expertise in a specific engineering discipline.
- Ensure high standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality.

Resource & Compliance Management:
- Deploy engineering resources effectively across multiple disciplines and projects.
- Ensure resources are competent, capable, and assessed in line with company processes.
- Maintain compliance with licence/authorisation conditions, legislation, and regulations.

Additional Responsibilities: Accountabilities may be defined by the Chief Engineer Management Arrangements, including alignment with the Company Design Authorities and Technical Authorities listing within the company management system.

- Deliver the programme and mobilise resources safely, securely, and efficiently.
- Ensure the team produces high-quality work with appropriate governance.

Quality & Compliance:
- Align team work with strategy, policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards.
- Ensure accurate configuration management of engineering deliverables.

Stakeholder Engagement:
- Practice effective stakeholder management to positively influence decisions and programme delivery.

Agile Capability:
- Maintain an agile technical capability to meet business requirements underpinning the programme.

Role Requirements

Security & Location:
- Successful DV (Developed Vetting) clearance.
- Ability to commit to 100% onsite attendance.

Experience & Expertise:
- Proven track record in delivering engineering or infrastructure programmes in highly regulated environments.
- Experience in safety, security, and quality compliance.
- Capability in leading and contributing to technical design reviews to ensure robust, compliant engineering solutions.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and assurance processes.

- Experience in construction, utilities, or major build programmes, with a focus on:
- Engineering governance
- Configuration management
- Design assurance

High-Risk Sectors:
- Preference for experience in nuclear, defence, or other high-hazard sectors, including:
- Nuclear safety principles
- Security protocols
- Regulatory expectations

Qualifications:
- Civil Engineering qualification required.
