Engineering Manager (Insurance Technology) – AI-Powered Specialty Insurance Platform
Location: UK or Eastern Europe (Remote, with occasional team meet-ups) Salary: £100,000 / €100,000 (with potential equity)
The Opportunity
Our client is a groundbreaking early-stage Insurtech business specialising in the Specialty insurance market. already achieved strong commercial traction and is now scaling rapidly with substantial financial backing.
This newly created Engineering Manager role offers the chance to become a key technical leader, reshaping the future of their Policy Administration Platform (PAS). Unlike a conventional leadership handover, you’ll build an entirely new Agentic AI version of the product, crafting a vision that defines industry innovations. The Role
A highly hands-on Engineering Manager position blending technical leadership and software excellence. You’ll oversee the design and development of the next-gen AI-powered Policy Administration System for the Specialty Insurance market.
While collaborating with specialists in front-end, back-end engineering, and data architecture, you’ll make critical technical decisions, lead component development, and ensure the platform evolves into a best-in-class AI-native solution. Ideal for engineers who retain a passion for coding, solving complex challenges, and dissecting emerging AI developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and AI-native evolution of a next-generation policy administration platform
- Stay hands-on across software design, architecture, and development
- Drive the build of new AI-powered features while modernising the existing PAS
- Own technical decision-making, software quality, and engineering standards
- Bridge front-end, back-end, and data architecture, leveraging specialist expertise
- Integrate AI tools into workflows (prompts, debugging, code generation)
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies for product and process improvements
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, and leadership to align tech with business goals
- Mentor and expand the engineering team
- Guide long-term engineering strategy and future innovation

About You
We seek engineers who love building as much as they enjoy leading. Ideal candidates are currently filling Software Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer, or Technical Lead roles across Insurtech or insurance software, with a strong hands-on developer mindset.
You should be intrigued by AI’s potential, already integrating AI coding tools into your workflow, and eager to pioneer its adoption. Drivers who want to reshape rather than refine, innovate rather than iterate—now’s your time to own the future of insurance technology.
Essential Requirements
Insurance Software Expertise:
- Direct experience developing software within Policy Administration Systems (PAS)
- Technical acumen in front-end and back-end development
Engineering Leadership:
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams and foster rapid growth using mentoring and stakeholder alignment

- Debugs and refines AI-generated code

- Leverages Large Language Models for engineering productivity gains
