Senior Engineering Manager – Aerospace & Defence Product Development
at CesiumAstro
We’re builders and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and airborne platforms. If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and autonomous environment, we’d love you to join us.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and deliver a complete product development team—from design conception to manufacture and test. This highly technical leadership role demands an expert who can balance engineering excellence, schedule adherence, and strategic budget management while championing innovation in a fast-growing aerospace and defence startup.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Accountability: Uphold engineering integrity across all product development phases, establishing and enforcing engineering-friendly processes, guidelines, and rigor in design reviews.
- Cross-Disciplinary Leadership: Collaborate across digital, RF, power, firmware, and mechanical disciplines, ensuring board- and system-level success. Participate where hands-on expertise is needed (e.g., high-risk or schedule-critical designs).
- Debug & Analysis: Lead or support complex debug efforts, addressing ill-defined problems requiring conceptual thinking and deep technical judgment.
- Mobility & Reliability: Drive designs to meet aerospace-grade quality, readability, scalability, and testability while collaborating with manufacturing, supply chain, and test engineering.
- Strategic Alignment: Guide digital architecture decisions tied to product performance and long-term technology roadmaps. Champion design reuse, modular architectures, and cross-product commonality.
- Interpersonal Influence: Form strong technical links across worldwide teams, sharing best practices and convincing stakeholders of departmental outcomes. Enhance scientific compliance and internal ecosystems.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
