Project Opportunity: Engineering Manager (NPI, Mechanical Design & Technical)

A high-growth opportunity to join a long-established Manufacturing and Production firm specialising in precision metal fabrication and high-integrity engineered products.

About the Role

The organisation, operating since the mid-1960s, delivers safety-critical components for industries requiring advanced gas, fluid, and chemical-handling systems, including:

  • Precision metal fabrication
  • High-integrity engineered products
  • Orbital welding techniques
  • Machining, inspection, and product development
  • Specialist assemblies like containment vessels and cylinders

They prides itself on cost-effective, reliable engineering solutions with a strong focus on:

  • Process investment
  • Technical quality standards
  • Client collaboration

Key responsibilities include:

  • New Product Introduction (NPI) leadership, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to budget.
  • Evaluating product feasibility (DFMEA, DFM, PFMEA) and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Engineering team leadership for new and existing product development.
  • Technical support to customers, including discussions on drawings, issues, and products.
  • Ensuring designs comply with customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Project & cross-functional coordination (engineering, manufacturing, supply chain).
  • Risk & process optimization, scheduling, and continuous improvement.
  • Acting as the main interface for suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive end-to-end NPI projects with focus on timelines and budgets.
  • Apply failure mode analyses (DFMEA, PFMEA) and design for manufacturing (DFM) best practices.
  • Resolve product design gaps and shortfalls to enhance manufacturability.
  • Provide customer-facing technical support, specialising in product/process consultations.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams (engineering, production, logistics) toward common goals.
  • Develop project reports, risk documentation, and Continuous Improvement plans.
  • Utilize commercial project management tools for measurement and reporting.

Desired Profile

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent validating experience).
  • Proven industrial NPI experience, preferably in precision engineering or fluid/chemical systems.
  • Track record of technical management, cross-team collaborations, and customer engagements.
  • Rooted understanding of engineering & manufacturing methodologies.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills for stakeholder and supplier interactions.
  • Hands-on project coordination & organisational control, with tools expertise (e.g., MS Project, Trello, etc.).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: £60,000 – £80,000*. Additional onus (bonus) and benefits tied to role complexity, experience, and current remuneration.

*Dependent on fit, salary history, and profile alignment.
