Location: Scotstoun, other UK BAE sites can be considered – hybrid working with quarterly to monthly travel to Scotstoun or other UK sites. Salary: Up to £64,500 depending on skills and experience + bonus scheme

Role Description
You’ll provide technical leadership, management, and engineering expertise across the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Programme’s Power and Propulsion discipline, delivering complex scope involving:
- New technologies
- Design changes
- Collaboration with customers, suppliers, and key programme stakeholders
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring design maturity while meeting cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and resolving technical conflicts.
- Guaranteeing successful system and capability integration across the platform.
Core Duties
- Leading the Power & Propulsion discipline, ensuring:
- Maturity of design, requirements compliance, and integration
- On-time, -cost, and high-quality system, compartment, and spatial alignment
- Managing suppliers throughout the lifecycle from technical specification to contract award, design review, integration, and delivery
- Driving design development and programme execution, including:
- 3D model reviews and layout development
- Issue resolution and milestone achievement
- Maintaining delivery plans, managing risks and performance, and ensuring governance alongside stakeholder engagement
- Liaising across internal/external stakeholders, including:
- Detailed design teams
- Build yards
- Prime contractors
- Overseeing task assignment, progress monitoring, and performance reporting
- Coaching, developing, and leading a high-performing team of Engineers, fostering:
- Inclusivity
- Continuous improvement
- Professional excellence

Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Technical expertise in power generation and propulsion system design, plus experience with:
- Project management
- Performance measurement
- Risk management
- Ability to manage high-performing teams, aligning goals, coaching talent, driving change, and maintaining scope, quality, cost, and deadlines
- Proven ability to resolve complex engineering conflicts, manage trade-offs, and negotiate successful outcomes collaboratively
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with clear communication to:
- Internal technical teams
- IPT leads
- Customers
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant discipline), holding Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively pursuing professional registration

The Power & Propulsion Team
You’ll join a high-performing, trusted engineering team delivering critical systems for the River Class Destroyer Programme. Responsible for the entire propulsion train (gas turbines, gearboxes, shaft lines, couplings, sheaths) in an independent, fast-paced environment, supported by propulsion experts and directly accountable for vital ship equipment success.
