Multi-Skilled Engineer – Nicholas & Harris, Salisbury
Location: Nicholas & Harris, Salisbury
Shift: 4 on, 4 off – 6PM to 6AM
Salary: Competitive with opportunities for growth
About the Role
We are exciting the opportunity to join our Engineering team as a Multi-Skilled Engineer at our Nicholas & Harris site – part of Finsbury Food Group.
With over 180 years of heritage in craft baking, Nicholas & Harris is renowned for producing UK’s most recognised bakery products, from artisanal to speciality breads. As we continue investing in our site, technology, and people, now is the perfect time to join our growing team.
As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing operations. - Maximise equipment availability
- Minimise downtime
- Ensure safe, high-quality product delivery to customers

Responsibilities
As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, your day-to-day duties will include:
- Maintaining critical production equipment and site services to keep the bakery operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
- Conducting planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and responding to breakdowns during both scheduled and unscheduled work.
- Completing corrective maintenance activities, supporting installation and improvement projects.
- Diagnosing faults, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions to minimise disruption.
- Reducing downtime and enhancing equipment reliability, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recording all maintenance activities accurately via our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring work orders, materials, and labour are properly documented.
- Developing and promoting maintenance standards—equipment performance monitoring and engineering best practices.
- Collaborating closely with Operations and Technical teams to drive a proactive maintenance culture and support site growth.

Success in this role will be measured through:
- Completion of PPM tasks
- Quality and accuracy of work orders
- Equipment reliability & downtime reduction
- Health & Safety compliance

- Effective root cause analysis and troubleshooting solutions
Requirements
To thrive in this role, you must possess:
- Recognised engineering qualifications (e.g., Multi-Skilled Engineer diploma or degree).
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (preferably food manufacturing).
- Strong diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments under pressure.
- Proactive, self-motivated mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
- IT literacy, including experience with maintenance management systems.
