Engineering Services Technician
Calling all fleet and commercial HGV technicians! Are you interested in serving your community and working to keep it safe?
An opportunity has arisen for a HGV/LGV Engineering Technician with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Working from our 3 workshops, the ESFRS engineering team are responsible for the purchase, maintenance, repair and disposal of its inventory of 188 vehicles and operational equipment including breathing apparatus.
ESFRS will offer you a chance to work with, and on, some of the most technically advanced vehicles and operational equipment currently available, all of which are dedicated to supporting front line Firefighters, whether it be at incidents or community education. You will be a vital part of that team.

As the successful candidate, you will need to be enthusiastic, skilled in the field of heavy motor vehicle repair, have practical ability and passion for this industry. You will also need to live within East Sussex. You will have a HGV driving licence and own tools suitable to the repair and maintenance of light and heavy vehicles.
We value work life balance, as an engineer you will work 37 hours a week and in return receive 25 days paid holiday per annum plus bank holidays, access to our attractive local government pension scheme and after a qualifying period access to sick pay which is incrementally increased based on your length of service.
The starting salary for this role will be £39,662.65 per annum, rising to £43,894.18 for candidates who can demonstrate 5 years post apprenticeship work experience in HGV Fleet or HGV commercial vehicle repair (this will be means tested at interview). This is inclusive of the contractual 12% standby payment for working a on-call rota. This will be subject to an annual increment as well as cost of living increments.

The successful applicant will be based at our Roedean workshop, and following probation will have access to one of our “mobile workshops” to carry out on station servicing and call out duties when required.
