Job Description: Controls Team Leader
At BW Integrated Systems (BWIS), a division of the +$3 billion organisation, we lead the design and manufacture of end-of-line packaging equipment, robotic automation, and integrated packaging systems.
As Controls Team Leader, you will lead and develop a team of Controls Engineers, blending customer-focused engineering with the opportunity to shape future solutions. Your work will align with wide-ranging control technologies across our product lines.

Key Responsibilities
- Daily leadership of an Electrical/Controls Engineering team, including:
- Managing development and performance goals
- Assigning tasks & monitoring progress
- Creating and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices
- Partnering with stakeholders to ensure engineering outputs meet customer requirements and comply with safety Directives & Harmonised Standards
- Developing Functional, Detailed & Software Design Specifications derived from User Requirement Specifications (URS)
- Software development for PLCs (safe PLCs) & HMIs:
- Allen-Bradley & Siemens platforms
- Visible work with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 & Siemens TIA Portal
- Programming VFD, motion & servo-controlled systems:
- Rockwell Powerflex, Bosch IndraDrive, Festo EMCA
- Generating customer documentation, including:
- Operator instructions & safety manuals
- Plant decommissioning and commissioning documentation
- Participation in Internal & Customer Proof-of-Concept (PDI) demonstrations
- Supporting other departments within the business, where necessary
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are seeking a people-focused leader (with team mentorship experience) with:
- 5+ years of automation software design in packaging or special-purpose machinery, with demonstrated success
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND or higher)
- Experience creating applications with PackML in automated environments
- Background in robo-changeover/scheduling programming (e.g., KUKA / Fanuc) or capacity to upskill on-site
- Exposure to machinery commissioning & troubleshooting, including experience working on-site at customer facilities
- Willingness to travel (1–2 week blocks) for commissioning, debugging, or training

- Familiarity with HMI application frameworks (e.g., Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk View SE / Schneider SCADA)
- Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
- Regression & Quality Analyst knowledge
