The Role

We’re looking for a pragmatic, results-driven senior engineering professional with a strong backend focus. Internally, this role will be titled "House Pay Tech Lead". You’ll design and implement practical solutions, lead by example in championing code quality and engineering standards, and collaborate with both technical teams and business stakeholders across varying levels of technical understanding.

Ruby experience is a plus. Much of our existing platform is built in Ruby, so you should be comfortable working in and contributing to it, even if it’s not your primary language. We also welcome polyglot engineers with a background in any mainstream language. We’re particularly interested in engineers who are quick to pick up new languages, tools, and paradigms as needed, and who stay effective as the technology landscape evolves. You’ll thrive here if you’re comfortable with autonomy, navigate ambiguity well, and are focused on delivering value quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the engineering team in the House Pay area, as well as collaborating closely with technology leadership such as heads and principals when alignments and sign-offs are required
  • Leading the team in designing technical solutions to meet product requirements and business needs.
  • Lead the team effort across the entire software development life cycle
  • Participating in team ceremonies, taking the lead where required
  • Identifying and owning architectural and other technical risks.
  • Lead by example, championing agreed technical standards and processes to raise the engineering standards of the whole team
  • Helping to build and maintain technical roadmaps, looking ahead for future opportunities or blockers and ensuring that the development team aligns with the strategy.
  • Helping to develop solutions by contributing to code, testing technologies and producing rapid prototypes.
  • Providing advice to the development teams regarding the technical implications of current user stories as well as those in the backlog.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
