Company Description
VCHRGD is one of the UK's fastest-growing EV charging manufacturers, delivering reliable, connected charging solutions to installers, wholesalers, energy companies and strategic partners across the UK.
As our business continues to scale, we're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the technical operation of our products throughout their lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role combining engineering, product quality, firmware management, compliance and technical support.
You'll work closely with our manufacturers, software partners and internal teams to ensure our products continue to deliver the high standards our customers expect.
Role Description
You'll take ownership of VCHRGD's engineering function, ensuring our chargers remain reliable, compliant and easy to support throughout their lifecycle.
Working across hardware, firmware and software, you'll lead technical operations from product launch through to ongoing support, managing suppliers, driving continuous improvement and ensuring our products continue to evolve as the market grows.

Qualifications
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent organisation and leadership skills.
You'll ideally have:
- At least 3 years' experience in an engineering, technical operations or product support role
- Experience supporting connected hardware products
- A good understanding of firmware, software and hardware interaction
- Experience diagnosing technical issues and coordinating solutions
- Knowledge of quality assurance and root cause analysis
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A hands-on approach with a genuine passion for solving problems

What You'll Be Doing
Product & Firmware Management
- Manage firmware releases from development through to deployment
- Coordinate testing, validation and product improvements
- Monitor product performance and investigate technical issues
- Work closely with software developers and technology partners
Technical Operations
- Own the systems used to provision, configure and manage connected chargers
- Monitor connectivity and system performance
- Manage relationships with software and technology providers
- Ensure technical incidents are resolved efficiently
Product Quality & Compliance
- Drive quality assurance across hardware, firmware and manufacturing
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions
- Maintain product certifications and technical documentation
- Coordinate testing with manufacturers and certification bodies
- Ensure products remain compliant with relevant UK regulations
Technical Support
- Provide advanced technical support to installers and customers
- Support complex commissioning and fault-finding activities
- Produce technical guidance, knowledge articles and installer documentation
- Help improve the customer support experience through better engineering processes

Engineering Leadership
- Lead engineering projects from concept through implementation
- Coordinate activity with manufacturers, suppliers and software partners
- Support new product introductions and engineering change control
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, quality and operational efficiency
It Would Be Great If You Have
Experience within one or more of:
- EV charging
- Energy technology
- Electrical products
- Electronics
- Automotive
- Connected devices (IoT)
- Telecommunications
You'll also stand out if you have experience with:
- Firmware or over-the-air software updates
- Product compliance and certification
- ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems
- Supplier and manufacturer management
- Technical documentation and installer training
