The CPU design team deliver high performance cores to the industry; these cores are used in a number of end applications such as data centres, mobile phones, laptop, industrial, robotics and automotive. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and reliable individual to join our team in Cambridge to work in a variety of operational aspects.

The successful candidate will be required to modify PCBs to enable detailed power measurements to be made. Typically, this will mean adding current sense resistors to PCBs; this requires a high level of board rework experience. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for running some workloads to exercise the system while monitoring the power and performance.

The technician roles are central to the success of the performance analysis team and finding a candidate whose attitude, technical interests and personal qualities are a good fit with the team is essential. Applications are therefore invited from all candidates with 5+* years of relevant experience, with no upper limit implied.

Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Typically Include

  • Modifying consumer platforms to enable power measurements to be made.
  • Building up test systems to enable power measurements to be taken.
  • Planning/scheduling future testing
  • Managing test equipment and equipment calibration, working alongside our Lab Management team.
  • Undertaking routine test system maintenance
  • Building and assembling electronic/electrical/electro-mechanical test system components.
  • Ensuring the lab is aligned with our ESD policy and COSHH procedures.
  • On occasions, you may be asked to support our in-house board manufacturing team with board modifications and testing.

Essential Technical Experience

  • Excellence in soldering and PCB assembly rework skills, especially SMT
  • Experience of working in a lab environment
  • Experience of bench level mechanical assembly
  • Experience of using standard test equipment such as oscilloscopes
  • Understanding of the electronics environment, semiconductor industry.
  • Able to read and interpret circuit diagrams
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel etc.

Desirable Technical Experience

  • Experience of ESD Handling procedures
  • Experience of working with test automation
  • Experience of advanced soldering techniques, e.g., chip reflow
  • Experience of test equipment such as DAQs.
  • Ability to use python programming language

Education

Minimum Qualifications

HNC or equivalent qualification preferred or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.

Work Experiences

5+* years basic electrical/electronic engineering, electronics or RF testing, or related experience, working in a lab environment.
