Engineering Technician
Location: Manchester Contract: Permanent (4 on 4 off shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, rotating 7 am to 7 pm)
As an Engineering Technician at our Manchester dairy, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence through reactive maintenance and proactive asset management.
About the Role
You’ll provide safe, frontline reactive maintenance while identifying the root causes of equipment failures. Your work will not only restore equipment to service as swiftly as possible but also drive cost-effective improvements to enhance machinery efficiency and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure effective handover of information across shifts
- Use Predictive Maintenance System (PMS) to prioritise and solve issues via Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
- Diagnose faults and test, repair, and maintain Mechanical/Electrical equipment
- Observe, recognise, and report machinery defects or signs of impending failure, updating CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) records
- Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers for technical support, expediting replacement parts when necessary
- Lead shift-based problem-solving when corrective actions aren’t immediately clear
- Work as part of a team with First Line Response Technicians
- Coach operators on asset care tasks
- Identify and implement operational improvements
- Spot and raise life-cycle issues with recommendations
- Apply and support 5WHY and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques to achieve long-term fixes
- Drive and maintain departmental 5S programmes (for workshops and stores)

Requirements
- A recognised apprenticeship in engineering
- Experience within maintenance, preferably in the manufacturing industry
- Exposure to mechanical/electrical systems
- An ONC (Ordinary National Certificate) or HNC (Higher National Certificate) in a relevant discipline
- An IOSHH or NEBOSH qualification (desirable)
- An electrical qualification or multiskilled engineer experience
- Demonstration of cost-effective efficiency improvements in past roles (implicit requirement)
