English Academic Mentor | Newham | September 2026 Start
Are you a high-achieving English graduate looking to gain meaningful school-based experience before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology or another education-focused profession? A high-performing secondary school in Newham is seeking an English Academic Mentor to join from September 2026 on a full-time, long-term basis until July 2027.
This role is ideal for graduates who are passionate about literacy, language development and supporting young people to achieve their academic potential. English Academic Mentor – What The School Offers
Full academic year placement from September 2026 to July 2027 Weekly pay of £444–£513 via PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay) Ongoing CPD focused on classroom practice, behaviour management and safeguarding Opportunities to work alongside experienced English teachers and middle leaders Exposure to literacy intervention programmes designed to raise attainment across KS3 and KS4 Excellent preparation for future teacher training applications
Key Responsibilities
Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 within English lessons and intervention sessions Delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group literacy support Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom organisation Helping pupils develop confidence in reading, writing and communication Supporting students who require additional academic or pastoral guidance

The Ideal Candidate
Holds a 2:1 degree or higher in English or a related subject from a leading UK university Has previous child-centred experience through tutoring, mentoring, coaching or similar settings Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills Possesses a genuine interest in education and supporting young people to succeed
