Teacher of English (0.8 FTE Part-Time)

Location: Sutton

Salary: M1-M6 (Main Pay Scale, pro rata)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 0.8 FTE (4 days per week)

Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English with a passion for inspiring young people to develop a love of language and literature? My client is a high-performing all-girls' grammar school with academy status, renowned for its academic excellence, strong values, and commitment to student success.

The Role

They are seeking an experienced and passionate Teacher of English to join their successful and forward-thinking English department on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, challenging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach Key Stage 5 for suitably experienced candidates.
  • Inspiring students to develop strong literacy, analytical, and communication skills through the study of language and literature.
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners and maximise student progress.
  • Monitoring and assessing student achievement, providing high-quality feedback and targeted interventions where appropriate.
  • Contributing to curriculum development and sharing best practice within the English department.
  • Promoting high standards of behaviour, effort, and academic achievement.
  • Supporting the wider life of the school through enrichment activities and pastoral responsibilities as required.
  • Upholding the school's commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have experience teaching English at secondary level.
  • Possess excellent subject knowledge and a passion for English language and literature.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire, challenge, and motivate students.
  • Have high expectations of student achievement and behaviour.
  • Be committed to continuous professional development and collaborative working.
  • Have a strong understanding of assessment practices and the effective use of data to support student progress.
