English Teacher – Alternative Provision, Sunderland

We are seeking a passionate, resilient, and dedicated English Teacher to join a welcoming Alternative Provision in Sunderland from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic educator who is committed to making a genuine difference to the lives of young people by delivering engaging English lessons in a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

The provision is a well-established specialist setting that supports students who require an alternative approach to education. Working with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning, the school is committed to helping every student re-engage with education, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes. With small class sizes, a strong pastoral ethos, and a highly supportive staff team, the provision places great emphasis on developing positive relationships, promoting emotional wellbeing, and preparing students for successful futures.

As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting your teaching to meet the individual needs of students and helping them make meaningful academic and personal progress.

This role will commence in September 2026 and continue until the Christmas break, offering an excellent opportunity to join a committed team dedicated to transforming the educational experiences of young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the individual learning, behavioural, and emotional needs of students.
  • Inspire students to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and communication skills.
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, using assessment effectively to inform planning and support attainment.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment where students feel supported to succeed.
  • Promote positive behaviour using effective behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Build positive relationships with students to support engagement, confidence, and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, teaching assistants, parents, carers, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
