Secondary English Teacher: Supply and General Cover

Location: Plymouth, Devon

Job Type: Part-Time / Full-Time, Temporary, Supply

Salary: Competitive Daily Rate (Dependent on Experience / Scale)

Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday (Term-time only)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, pre-planned English Language and Literature lessons across Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).
  • Provide flexible general cover across alternative secondary school subjects, maintaining excellent classroom management and engagement.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and productive learning environment in line with individual school behaviour policies.
  • Leave clear, constructive handover notes for the returning classroom teacher.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification (ECTs/NQTs are highly encouraged).
  • A strong subject knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for secondary English.
  • Excellent adaptability, strong communication skills, and a confident approach to general cover teaching.
  • Must be based in or able to reliably commute to Plymouth.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS clearance on the Update Service (or willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
