English Teacher

TITLE: Middle School Teacher

Category: Professional Staff

Reports to: Building Principal

Job Summary

Plans, organizes, controls, and directs the classroom to provide an educational program for pupils in grades 6 through 8.


Qualifications

Requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or higher certification
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate and Highly Qualified status in English
  • Ensures compliance with Employment Eligability (criminal history records, pre-employment drug testing, physical examination/TB test)
  • Proficient English skills, with strong oral and written communication
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with school staff, parents, and the public
  • Proficiency in operating all computers and office equipment as assigned
  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality standards
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative work relationships with faculty and team members
  • Valid driver’s license required if job requires district travel

Key knowledge areas include:

  • Current middle school trends in student growth and development
  • Data analysis and instructional strategies for tailored intervention
  • All applicable legal codes, relevant regulations, district policies & procedures

Primary Job Functions

Core Responsibilities:

  • Teaches assigned curriculum, aligning with state-adopted standards and Board of Education approval.
  • Performs data-driven analysis and evaluates student progress through tests, reports and assessments.
  • Creates and maintains an engaging and functional learning environment with active discipline strategies.
  • Develops and tracks student performance metrics — reports progress and grades to administration via reports and assessments.
  • Supports special needs students as per IEPs, collaborating with support services and attending team meetings as needed.
  • Motivates students through differentiated learning experiences, tailoring instruction to meet varying ability levels.
  • Designs lesson plans and materials following PA Core Standards.
  • Establishes professional standards and expectations for student work through classroom displays.
  • Implements School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS).
  • Administers standardized and diagnostic assessments.

Secondary Job Duties

  • Represents the district professionally during external engagements and meetings with other agencies.
  • Maintains professional development through organized staff training or self-initiated growth.
  • Assists with student supervision in non-academic settings and Marshal (of appropriate duty) where applicable.
  • Participates actively in meetings, conferences, and mandatory in-service training programs.
