Job Role: Enterprise Architect- Transformation Programme, Utilities, Digital Transformation

  • UK – Stoke-on-Trent / onsite- 4 days a week mandatory

Introduction:

Our client is a leading, trusted British business water retail services provider delivering a major multi-year transformation programme to modernise core business capabilities, improve customer experience, and enable sustainable growth in a competitive, regulated market. We are looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect to define, govern and assure the end-to-end enterprise architecture for the programme, ensuring business strategy, operating model, data, applications, integrations, security and technology platforms are aligned to the target state vision and programme outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the enterprise architecture strategy, target architecture and roadmap.
  • Establish architecture governance, standards, principles and design assurance across programme workstreams.
  • Lead architectural decision-making across business, data, application, integration, technology and operational domains.
  • Own and maintain the target state architecture blueprint, transition states and technology roadmap.
  • Ensure solution designs align with enterprise principles, strategic objectives, security requirements, operational needs and financial constraints.
  • Govern supplier and partner solution designs, reviewing proposals for functional fit, scalability, security, resilience, maintainability and total cost of ownership.
  • Support alignment between programme leadership, business process leads, operating model teams and change management functions.
  • Work with data architecture standards to support master data management, data governance, lineage, data quality and trusted reporting foundations.
  • Define integration architecture patterns, including API-led integration, event-driven architecture and middleware strategy.
  • Identify and manage architecture-related risks, provide independent assurance and support stage gate, design assurance, migration, testing and transition activities.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience performing Enterprise Architect roles in large-scale transformation programmes.
  • Strong experience across business architecture, data architecture, application architecture, technology architecture and integration architecture.
  • Experience defining enterprise architecture frameworks, standards, roadmaps and governance processes.
  • Demonstrated success delivering architecture across ERP, CRM, billing, customer service and digital transformation programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, API-led integration, SaaS platforms, data governance and security architecture.
  • Experience establishing, chairing or operating within architecture governance forums and design authority processes.
  • Ability to communicate complex architecture concepts clearly to both technical and business audiences.
  • Ability to balance business, technical, financial, operational and regulatory considerations when shaping architecture decisions.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience within utilities, the water sector or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with MOSL market processes, billing and revenue management platforms, customer and debt management systems, and Master Data Management solutions.
  • Knowledge of TOGAF, ArchiMate, design authority practices and enterprise architecture modelling approaches.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and/or Salesforce.
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness, excellent stakeholder management and the confidence to challenge complex design decisions pragmatically.

This role is suited to a senior architectural leader who can operate confidently across executive and delivery levels, bridge business strategy and technology implementation, and provide clear governance across a complex transformation landscape. The successful candidate will be pragmatic, collaborative, and outcome-focused, with the ability to balance innovation, risk, cost, and operational practicality while supporting a scalable, secure, and resilient future-state architecture.
