Architecture
The enterprise-wide Architecture team is here to help TMHCC develop in a way that is sustainable, efficient and effective in delivering the desired business strategy. We do this by collaborating with our business stakeholders to produce solutions and roadmaps that maximise the value from investments in Tech, Data and Capabilities.
Job Purpose
The Enterprise Architect is a senior and pivotal role, vital to enabling TMHCC International define, frame and realise our business ambitions. You will work with senior business stakeholders, colleagues in Business Architecture and Solution Architecture to provide oversight across the full change portfolio and the complete end to end TMHCC estate.
You will bring together Business Capability, Technology, Digital, Data and Applications into a clear picture of how our business and IT work together to achieve business outcomes, add value to our organisation and how the work can be structured and sequenced to execute our strategy.
In addition to your technical and architectural acumen, you will develop a deep understanding of all our business lines. Combining this knowledge with your own experience to provide advice and guidance as required to support decision makers.
You will shape and own the end-to-end architecture for the International division and make sure it is holistically assessed, designed, optimised, governed whilst also working as part of the TMHCC Enterprise Architecture at group level to ensure alignment with corporate policies, strategy and direction to maximise the effectiveness of our investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Combining technology expertise, commercial understanding, business context and clear communication to drive engagement and sponsorship for the delivery of Architecture services to the enterprise.
- Developing a complete picture of business and technology architecture, working with the product owners and domain experts to align high level requirements with the architecture approach, promoting use of existing capability as well as helping to define the art of the possible from an understanding of the broader market.
- Support the optimisation of delivery through a broad understanding of the wider portfolio demand.
- Working with architecture counterparts to identify opportunities and propose solutions that deliver to business needs and progress the delivery of our strategic target state.
- Developing and evolving the E2E architecture and roadmaps across the businesses in alignment with emerging business needs, broader associated principles, patterns and roadmaps for the product space and the enterprise.
- Providing and supporting governance and assurance across projects and product lines to ensure design alignment with the strategy, avoidance and reduction of technical debt and an optimal outcome across business and technology needs.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and provide guidance on adoption to meet future business needs.
- Development and maintenance of the E2E architecture across 12 business lines and central functions, aligned with Line of Business requirements, the broader Enterprise Architecture and business strategy.
- Ensure the stated business outcomes and needs of the business lines and functions are understood, accurately represented in the E2E framework and aligned where possible to change initiatives and delivery plans.
- Proactively collaborate with key business stakeholders to develop and evolve the E2E capability needs and priorities.
- Support strategic decision making through the development of impact assessments ensuring that they are complete and covering all technical and business change, including cross-functional domains (e.g. data & information, integration, security, infrastructure) so that decisions are well informed and within investment envelope and benefit realisation.
- Work with the Architecture and Design community to ensure that the changes and projects are aligned to the agreed boundaries of common domains to avoid technical debt and bespoke solutions (e.g. Integration, Finance, Reporting etc.)
- Establish and maintain a repository of architecture documentation and best practices.
- Ensure that architectural standards, best-practices, patterns, and non-functional considerations are applied.
- Be the voice of reason to balance speed & agility with quality & reliability underpinning longer term commercial outcomes rather than short term expediency across all business distribution.
- Capture and manage exceptions and waivers to architecture standards and plans where required for commercial expediency ensuring there is a longer-term plan and agreement of where and how to address the technical debt.
- Work with the wider architecture community to define standards, patterns, and other architectural artefacts that guide the implementation of the Architecture for Digital
- Engage with, and manage relationships with, technology vendors to ensure the optimal outcome for TMHCC
- Lead, develop and mentor mixed teams to share knowledge, approaches and ways of working to achieve our goals

Skills and Experience Specification

- Experience in corporate & speciality insurance is desirable
- Demonstrable business acumen is essential – evidence of challenging stakeholder requirements and proposing alternative solutions to drive long term value
- You should be well versed in in the practical interpretation and implementation of Enterprise Architect methodologies (i.e., TOGAF, COBIT).
- Skilled at structured problem solving, not intimidated by large and complex problems, but able to analyse, breaking them down and solving piece by piece while keeping sight of the overall ‘big picture’.
- Ultimately being able to communicate rationally to non-technical stakeholders the path to the solution.
- Experience in the definition and implementation of strategic change initiatives – assuring designs and maintaining progress towards our target state.
- Experience in Solution governance, assurance and control with change or project environments.
- TOGAF9.x+ certification an advantage.
- Experience of architecting solutions in collaboration with self-organising agile teams not under direct line management.
- Familiarity with a variety of Agile delivery frameworks e.g., Scrum, Kanban, DSDM.
- Experience in modern service based, cloud first Insurance organisations.
