Enterprise Architect

As the Enterprise Architect, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business strategy and technology execution.

You will be responsible for:

  • Defining the target IT/OT (Information Technology / Operational Technology) landscape.
  • Guiding digital transformation initiatives.
  • Designing resilient, scalable architectures to address:
    • The energy transition.
    • Smart grid enablement.
    • Regulatory compliance.
    • Asset lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Architecture & Roadmap Development

  • Develop and maintain the Enterprise Architecture (EA) vision, strategy, and blueprints aligned with the client’s business goals.
  • Create and manage multi-year technology roadmaps, detailing the transition from current-state to future-state architectures.
  • Lead the architectural design for major digital transformation programs (e.g., IT/OT convergence, application modernization).

Utilities-Specific Domain Leadership

  • Provide subject matter expertise on core utility business processes and systems, including:
    • EAM (Enterprise Asset Management): e.g., IBM Maximo, SAP S/4HANA Asset Management.
    • Network & Grid: SCADA, GIS (Geographic Information Systems like ESRI), FSM.
  • Architect solutions that:
    • Facilitate seamless IT and OT integration.
    • Ensure rigorous cybersecurity standards.

Governance & Standards

  • Establish and enforce architecture principles, standards, and best practices across the enterprise.
  • Chair or participate in the Architecture Review Board (ARB) to:
    • Evaluate and approve project architectures.
    • Ensure alignment with the target blueprint.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, vendors, and tools to drive utility innovation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to:
    • C-level executives.
    • Business unit leaders.
    • Technical teams.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into business value.
  • Collaborate closely with:
    • Solution Architects.
    • Data Architects.
    • Security Architects.
    • Engineering leads.
  • Mentor and guide:
    • Junior architects.
    • Technical staff.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 10+ years in IT, with at least 5+ years as an Enterprise or Lead Solution Architect.
    • Industry Knowledge:
      • Minimum 3–5+ years in the Utilities sector (Power, Gas, or Water).
      • Deep understanding of regulatory environments and market dynamics.
  • Frameworks:

    • Practical experience with:
      • TOGAF, Zachman.
      • Modeling languages: ArchiMate, BPMN.

  • Integration & Data:

    • Expertise in designing:
      • Event-driven architectures.
      • Microservices.
      • API gateways, Enterprise Service Buses (ESB).
    • Strong knowledge of:
      • Utility data models (e.g., CIM – Common Information Model).
  • Cloud Computing:

    • Strong architectural knowledge of:
      • AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
      • Hybrid-cloud deployments.
  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

Desirable Skills (Bonus)

  • TOGAF Certification (or equivalent).
  • Cloud Solution Architect Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
  • Experience with IoT architectures for:
    • Smart grids.
    • Remote asset monitoring.
  • Knowledge of utility cybersecurity standards (e.g., NERC CIP, NIST).

    • Ability to see the "big picture" and anticipate future technology trends.
  • Communication:
    • Exceptional verbal and written skills.
    • Capable of presenting to technical and non-technical executive audiences.
  • Problem Solving:
    • High analytical rigor.
    • Capability to resolve complex, cross-functional architectural disputes.
