Enterprise Data Architect
Location: UK (flexible/remote) Salary: £70,000 per annum (plus ILW, if working in London) Hours: 35 per week (flexible, Monday–Friday) Contract: Permanent
The British Red Cross is embarking on an ambitious transformation of its data infrastructure, aiming to centralise data assets and enable insight-led approaches to its humanitarian work and community support across the UK.
This senior role in the centralised data team demands leadership to drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, foster responsible AI practices, and champion cross-functional platform integration. Leveraging an Azure-based architecture centred on Databricks, the team prioritises agile delivery, pragmatic migrations, and impact-driven change.
Your focus will be on:
- Developing robust data architecture
- Establishing governance, principles, and strategies
- Ensuring data products align with organisational needs
- Balancing long-term vision with real-world deliverables
Crucially, this opportunity is rooted in purpose—you will use data to create tangible change for communities in need.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to senior stakeholders in shaping data platforms and platforms:
- Review existing systems and recommend improvements, migrations, and best practice
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and teams across functions (emergency response, fundraising, healthcare, finance) to:
- Integrate new datasets and deliver end-to-end data products
- Drive adoption of shared standards and workflows
- Support operational teams to:
- Align local solutions with the overarching data architecture
- Champion shared platforms and shared accountability
- Design the structural foundation for data governance, including:
- Data organisation, storage, and integration strategies
- Practical standards for models, integration, and product realisation
- Compliance frameworks to ensure consistency and reliability

Requirements
Successful candidates must demonstrate ability to:
- Build collaborative momentum: Influence opposed stakeholders to adopt standards, platforms, and shared ways of working.
- Craft clear communications: Simplify complex data/technical concepts for non-specialist audiences.
- Cloud experience:
- Proficiency in Databricks (or equivalent platforms like Microsoft Fabric)
- Hands-on expertise in data modelling, platform design, and governance
- Visualisation skills:
- Enterprise-level tools (PowerBI, Tableau) for insight creation
- Delivery expertise:
- Proven track record in scaling data solutions—balancing vision with tactical implementation
- Pragmatic approach to migrations and integrations.
