Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), founded in 2012 by renowned game developer Chris Roberts, is one of the largest global independent studios dedicated to delivering next-generation AAA games. About the Role
As an Environment Artist at CIG, you will help bring to life the amazing locations in "Star Citizen"—a game built from the star system down, filled with rich and diverse environments at every scale. Players can seamlessly travel anywhere in this unique universe via ships and, at any point, leave them to explore on foot.
Your responsibilities will include:

Creating a range of high-quality, hard surface locations such as:
- Huge space stations in low orbit around planets
- Vast cityscapes stretching to the horizon
- Remote research outposts
- Shadowy underground facilities
- And many more

Focusing on cinematic sci-fi realism, you will design believable sci-fi spaces across diverse architectural styles, ensuring your work takes a player’s breath away.
Responsibilities
You will:
- Create high-quality, photorealistic sci-fi assets using a mid-poly workflow, including:
- Architectural kits
- Hero assets designed for reuse and visual consistency
- Assemble and dress environments within our proprietary StarEngine, ensuring they meet:
- Visual
- Technical
- Performance standards
- Collaborate closely with Art Leads and Art Directors to interpret and execute the artistic vision
- Work with Design, VFX, and Lighting teams to balance:
- Art
- Gameplay
- Performance
- Overall player immersion

Expectations and Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with a passion for:
- Creating inspirational environments
- An interest in sci-fi is a plus but not a requirement
- Experience creating game-ready, photorealistic artwork
- A solid understanding of key aspects of the discipline:
- Modelling
- Shading
- Lighting
- World building
- A willingness to collaborate and communicate effectively within a close-knit team
- A desire to support and mentor junior team members
