Tokamak Energy is a global leader in fusion energy and high temperature superconducting (HTS) technologies. We work with governments and industry to develop and bring fusion and HTS solutions to market through innovation and strategic partnerships. A major part of this is our end to end capability in HTS systems, from design to manufacturing.

We are the Magnet Systems Partner for the UK Government's STEP Fusion programme, under a £70 million contract running to 2029, working with UK Fusion Energy to deliver HTS magnet systems for the STEP prototype power plant, while also contributing to tokamak systems and plasma integration.

Founded in 2009 as a spin-out from the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Tokamak Energy is headquartered in Oxfordshire, with subsidiaries in the United States and Japan. Today, we employ over 300 people and have secured more than £280 million in investment.

We operate through three divisions:

  • Fusion - Fusion energy technologies, expertise and testbeds for government and private fusion programmes, including ST40, the world's highest field spherical tokamak.
  • TE Magnetics - HTS systems for commercial applications including fusion energy, power distribution, life sciences, and propulsion.
  • Ridgway Machines - Manufacturing equipment for the superconducting, electrical and wider energy sectors, enabling the rapid industrialisation of HTS products.

Looking for a role where you can have a real impact on safety in a complex, high-hazard environment?

We're hiring an EHS Business Partner to work closely with engineering and operational teams, ensuring health, safety and environmental standards are not just met — but actively embedded into day-to-day work.

This is a highly operational role, suited to someone who is grounded and experienced in fast-moving environments. You'll be visible on site, working alongside teams, and confident engaging in constructive, sometimes challenging conversations to ensure the right safety outcomes are achieved.

You'll partner with leaders across the business to drive compliance, support activity on the ground, and continuously improve how EHS is integrated into operations.

Why this role

This is an opportunity to step into a role where you can directly influence how EHS is delivered on the ground — working alongside experienced teams in a fast-paced, technically complex environment.

If you're someone who prefers being close to operations, building strong relationships, and making practical improvements that matter, this role offers exactly that.

About you

  • You enjoy a role that is primarily operational (around 90% focused on site-based activity) and be happy to be based 5 days a week in our Abingdon office
  • You are grounded, pragmatic, and experienced in supporting fast-moving operational environments
  • You're comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and able to hold clear, confident and robust conversations when needed
  • You're confident challenging behaviours or decisions in a constructive, professional way
  • You enjoy supporting multiple areas of the business, with some cross-site collaboration
  • You're comfortable with occasional travel to our Leicester site (approximately once per month)
  • You prefer a hands-on, visible role and being close to the work

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
