EHS Manager
Company: FMCG Manufacturing Company Location: Newbury, West Berkshire Salary: £60,000 – £68,000 per annum + comprehensive package including:
- Private healthcare

An exciting opportunity has opened at a leading UK manufacturing organisation, based near Newbury, West Berkshire. They are seeking a passionate and proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to join their large, complex, fast-paced site as part of the site leadership team. The role involves leading large-scale EHS projects, shaping the site’s safety culture, and fostering confidence, ownership, and proactive behaviours across the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the site’s EHS subject matter expert, providing competent advice and guidance to leadership.
- Champion a positive safety culture and ensure full compliance with UK EHS legislation. Drive continuous improvement to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related illnesses.
- Coach and mentor one direct report while empowering a safety-focused culture with clear accountability.
- Manage environmental compliance, oversee EHS budgets, and align site operations with Group EHS standards and strategies.
- Develop and implement an effective EHS Management System to minimise business risk, including incidents, accidents, environmental accidents, and ill health.
- Promote ownership of safety by encouraging the workforce to challenge unsafe practices.
- Conduct regular monthly EHS inspections with timely follow-ups to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Drive continuous improvement through EHS projects and engage colleagues in change initiatives.
- Oversee EHS training programs (both in-house and external) and support managers in identifying training gaps.
- Ensure effective risk assessment—comprehensive evaluation, review, and updating—while advising on control measures.
- Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, ensure corrective actions and adherence to RIDDOR reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies like the HSE, Environment Agency, Thames Water, and local authorities.
- Prepare agendas and minutes for the Site EHS Committee and maintain emergency response plans, including regular drills.
- Ensure compliance with UK EHS legislation, codes of practice, and company policies.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Certificate, with practical experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Direct experience in coaching/mentoring a team while managing a complex, fast-paced manufacturing site.
- Hands-on experience with CDM projects in a manufacturing context.
- Proven leadership skills with strong communication and stakeholder engagement experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office and EHS software (e.g., Evotix).
- Data-driven mindset able to analyse complex EHS data and deliver actionable insights.
